Valchromat, aluminium, Arduino, electrics, transformer

The kinetic wall sculpture ‘ANGST’ consists of an oversized black lettering mounted on an aluminium scaffolding, which, obviously installed incorrectly, seems to be askew, out of kilter. But what at first glance appears to be an unfortunate, unhinged hanging of a construction intended to remain in one and the same position turns out, on the contrary, to be a movement, namely a ponderous, mechanical, extremely slow rotation around its own central axis; so slow that it is hardly perceptible to the viewer.

Exactly one revolution completes the word in 24 hours, thus in the same time which the earth needs for such. Thus, depending on the time of day, one finds the lettering either straight and legible, sometimes less, sometimes more crooked or even upside down. This movement, alluding to the earth’s rotation, raises the question of whether the term itself rotates on its own axis or the rest of the world revolves around it; existing frames of reference are shifted, reversed, turned upside down.
